November 2010 saw the inaugural Phi Kappa Tau Volunteer Development Institute in Lexington, Ky. The three-day institute was designed for volunteers who work directly with chapters (Domain Directors, Board of Governors chairmen, alumni advisors, chapter advisors, faculty advisors, financial advisors, recruitment advisors, risk management advisors and scholarship advisors).
All curriculum for the 2010 Institute was developed by Bluegrass West Domain Director and Volunteer Development Institute Dean Les Fugate, Centre '99.
As a result of the Institute, the participants will be able to:
Understand and work within the volunteer leadership structure of the Fraternity
Correctly identify each responsibility as it appears in the volunteer job description
Prepare a briefing for chapters on the vision and direction of the Fraternity
Analyze the chapter’s status using Borradaile Challenge metrics
Correctly identify Executive Offices contact people and their roles in relation to a particular volunteer position
Know where to access resources pertaining to a particular volunteer role
Possess an understanding of the educational programs and resources that the Executive Offices makes available to undergraduate members and know how those programs are supported, including financially
Understand the proper ways to develop, implement and review Chapter Improvement Plans
Identify effective approaches to advising college men
Effectively partner with appropriate chapter officers to successfully execute officer transition, recruitment, finances, alumni relations and membership orientation
Analyze the need for, identify the resources required for and facilitate Chapter Operational Retreats
