On August 15, 2015 In just under two years since Phi Kappa Tau first stepped foot in Murfreesboro Tenn., the Zeta Lambda Chapter has officially chartered on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University on. This marks the official installation of the 155th chapter of Phi Kappa Tau.
Success Managers Tristan Conroy, Centre ’12, and Logan Lukacs Baldwin Wallace ’10 arrived on campus to begin the initiation of 36 new brothers on August 14, 2015. To aid in the initiation efforts the soon-to-be chapter’s Board of Governors chaired by Phillip Key, Tennessee ’94, stepped in to help as well as several area alumni from the Nashville area. Most notably several undergraduates from the Zeta Alpha chapter at Belmont University were instrumental in the success of the imitations.
Following the a post-ritual explanation in the morning attended by National President Rick Keltner, Sacramento State ’76, and National Vice President Mike Dovilla, Baldwin Wallace ’94, a formal charter signing ceremony was held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Murfreesboro. Remarks were made by Past Colony President Kyle Elliot, Southern Illinois ’12, CEO Tim Hudson, Truman State ’97, current Chapter President Mark Harvey, Middle Tennessee State ’15, and MTSU’s Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Danny Kelley, Wright State ’86. Following the kind words the newly initiated brothers eagerly signed the charter document as family, friends, alumni, faculty, and staff guests proudly looked on.
Following the signed of the charter, a grand reception was also held in the Embassy Suites Murfreesboro in which over 200 were in attendance. Following the meal several formal remarks were made, the grand finale of which being the presentation of the charter to the chapter by National President Rick Keltner. Chapter President Mark Harvey triumphantly held up the charter as the ballroom erupted with applause.
The historic event closed with the candlelight ceremony presented by National Vice President Mike Dovilla, thus solidifying the bond of brotherhood that was felt throughout the evening. Judging by the commitment to the values of Phi Kappa Tau expressed throughout the weekend’s events, there is certainly a bright future ahead for the Zeta Lambda chapter.
