Scholarship & Award Applications Open

Attention Brothers!

Phi Kappa Tau Foundation scholarship applications are officially open! Last year the Foundation awarded nearly 70 scholarships to students pursuing bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees. These scholarships are distributed based on academic merit, commitment to Phi Kappa Tau ideals, and community service.

The deadline for all 2019-2020 academic year scholarships is March 1st, 2019 – A MONTH EARLIER THAN PREVIOUS YEARS

All applications require:

  • One letter of recommendation

  • An up-to-date resume (including any volunteer experience or community service)

  • Two references

  • An essay describing how, by admitting you to membership, Phi Kappa Tau has helped develop you into a MAN OF DISTINCTION

Eighteen endowed scholarships were awarded because of the generosity of Phi Kappa Tau Foundation donors in 2018. There is no application fee for these funds, and they may be applied for annually.

Additionally, applications are now open for all awards and recognition. Last year Phi Tau recognized over thirty alumni and undergraduates for their outstanding work as community leaders, philanthropists, and scholars. Awards can be applied for individually or you can nominate a Brother or friend of Phi Tau for an award.

All award applications are due April 1st, 2019.

 Award nominations are an excellent way to show your appreciation for a Brother or friend of Phi Tau’s dedication to the organization.

Changes to the Regional Conference Curriculum

It’s almost Regional Conference time again! One of our most popular National Programs, Regional Conferences are a one-day leadership and officer development program hosted across each of our nine geographic regions. This year’s schedule is as following:

The newly redesigned program will focus on three tracks: Prevention & Wellness, Recruitment, and Leadership Development. Phi Kappa Tau is very excited to unveil these changes to the curriculum that we believe better reflect the needs of chapter leadership.
 
The Prevention & Wellness Track will focus on preparing prevention plans for issues leadership may encounter within their chapter. During this track you will spend time developing an understanding of what prevention is, why it matters, and how to create meaningful change within your chapter. It is critical you attend the Prevention & Wellness training because beginning with Spring 2019 semester, all chapters will be required to submit a Prevention Plan for the Executive Offices to have on file.
 
Recruitment is the most frequently requested area chapters ask for help. The Recruitment Track will focus on how to plan recruitment activities, how to identify good matches for your chapter, and how to improve retainment. This track also gives officers the opportunity to share their best practices on a variety of recruitment and retention tactics and skills.
 
Finally, the Leadership Development Track will explore the fundamental qualities that make for a good Phi Kappa Tau leader: honesty, integrity, commitment, passion, and accountability. The Leadership Development track gives officers the opportunity to improve these qualities within themselves and learn how to better identify these qualities in others.
 
Regional Conferences are a fantastic opportunity to grow as a chapter officer and network with other Phi Tau leadership.   • 33% knowledge gain by undergraduates participating in EverFi’s online education modules covering alcohol, hazing, and sexual assault

JOB POSTING: Senior Director of Development

The Executive Offices are hiring!

Founded in 1906, the mission of Phi Kappa Tau is to champion a lifelong commitment to brotherhood, learning, ethical leadership and exemplary character. The purpose of the Foundation, founded in 1945, is to ensure the philanthropic support necessary to sustain high levels of educational programming by fostering a lifelongrelationship and commitment to the Fraternity’s ideals.

This position serves as the senior director of development for the Phi Kappa Tau Foundation and manages a portfolio of prospective donors, while working collaboratively with the CEO. This position reports directly to and is evaluated by the CEO and participates in the annual evaluation and review process. Salary is dependent on experience, qualifications and credentials. Role and Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 100 prospective donors

  • Solicit gifts of $25,000 and higher from alumni and friends

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward top level prospective donors

  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:

    • Initiate contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors

    • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies, including working with volunteers

    • Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure

  • Make solicitations when appropriate

  • Maintain stewardship contacts with donors

  • Work collaboratively with the CEO to manage individual portfolios

  • Focus on securing support for a set of organizational priorities that include unrestricted support, academic scholarship, educational program support, and general Fraternity support

  • Supervision of up to three foundation professionals

Experience, Skills and Competencies

  • Proven track record of achieving fundraising goals

  • 3-5 years of successful experience in major or planned gift fundraising

  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors to develop relationships

  • Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base

  • Strong verbal communication skills and an ability to write clearly and persuasively

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Sound computer skills including word processing and database management

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including travel up to 60% of the time.

  • An understanding of the non-profit, volunteer and fundraising sector

  • General knowledge of fraternity operations

  • Track record of successful staff management

  • Membership in a Greek organization, preferably Phi Kappa Tau, is strongly desired

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent prior experience
